ExxonMobil and British Council support education in Maputo

• Over 25,000 students to benefit from program
• 300 teachers from three schools to receive training

The program’s core objective is to train 300 individuals, comprised of teachers, school directors and community leaders in content and classroom methodology to support the development of over 25,000 students in using self-directed thinking to solve problems analytically, produce new and innovate ideas and make informed decisions.

The event, held at the Institute for Teacher Development (IFP) in Matola marked the beginning of the teacher training from the Quisse Mavota, Zona Verde and Liberdade Secondary schools.

“Education is a key pillar of the ExxonMobil global community strategy.” said Arne Gibbs, General Manager for ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada. “Through this partnership, we are investing in teacher training that will build the foundation for a stronger student, which in turn will strengthen their families and communities. ExxonMobil will continue to support programs that promote youth development in Mozambique.”

Jinal Shah, Deputy British High Commissioner, present on the day added “We are extremely pleased to see the launch of this key education project, which supports the United Kingdom’s strategy for educational development. Initiatives as this allow young people to participate more effectively in the growth of their countries.”

Robert Taylor, Director British Council, said “We are particularly delighted to celebrate the launch of a project which will benefit a large number of young Mozambicans, along with their teachers and school communities.  We pass on strong thanks to our partners ExxonMobil Moçambique and the Ministry of Education and Human Development for supporting the development and implementation of this exciting initiative”.
