Area 4 Provides 270 Scholarships to Youth in Cabo Delgado

ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada (EMML), on behalf of Area 4, announces the launch of the “Youth Personal and Academic Empowerment” education initiative in Palma, Cabo Delgado, implemented by Tsemba Life.

  • 220 Scholarships to be awarded to University and Secondary school students
  • Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) scholarships to 50 youth from communities in Chiure, Balama and Montepuez

The initiative was launched with local government authorities, school leaders, civil society, and other community stakeholders, and the occasion informed the program´s objectives and requirements. The program, which will support a total of 270 students over the next calendar year, aims to reduce school dropout rates, while equipping them with life skills to succeed in their personal and professional lives.

Through the initiative, the beneficiaries will be attributed academic scholarships either for primary, secondary, or tertiary education. 50 of these scholarships will be attributed to Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET) in the Chiure, Balama and Montepuez institutes and 20 to university students.

“The future of Cabo Delgado lies in the hands of the youth of today. This is a critical investment that will provide access to academic training and social development to the youth from the various communities” said, Arne Gibbs, General Manager for ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada. “Education is a foundational element of Area 4’s community investment strategy, and we will continue to work with our co-ventures, local authorities, and community partners to support greater access to education across Cabo Delgado.”

The Area 4 Youth Scholarship Program for Cabo Delgado builds on Rovuma LNG’s community investment strategy for the district of Palma, which is focused on education, health, agriculture, and socioeconomic inclusion of surrounding host communities.

Our aim is to support the education of 270 youth between the ages of 12 and 25 in Cabo Delgado to enhance their chances for the future. “ said Tina Mucavele, General Manager for Tsemba Life.
