ExxonMobil Celebrates Contributions of Mozambican Women at Power Play
The LNG Power Play was developed by leading women from ExxonMobil to help bring together female colleagues from across the LNG value chain to network and do business.
“Mozambique’s oil and gas sector continues to demonstrate how it promotes women into key positions to develop the country’s natural resources,” said Jos Evens, lead country manager for EMML. “Power Play helps to create awareness of how a supportive environment can support great business outcomes across all parts of the LNG value chain.”
The reception highlighted recent Mozambican Power Play award recipients Jocelyne Machevo, who won the rising star award, and Loide Chebeia, who was a finalist. Both women were recognized at Gastech 2019, in Houston, Texas.
“ExxonMobil works with the Ministry on a number of initiatives to support and empower vulnerable women and children across Mozambique,” said Minister Cidália Chaúque Oliveira for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare. “Power Play is an important platform that builds on ExxonMobil’s commitment to Mozambique and Mozambique women to learn from and mentor one another. I look forward to watching the program grow as Mozambique becomes a global leader in LNG.”
What began as a ‘pilot’ one-off event at LNG18 in Perth in 2016, quickly became a successful series of events taking place all over the world. The Power Play has succeeded in bringing many women together to collaborate and innovate across the complex system of the LNG Value chain, while shining a light on how they can make a difference in the LNG business.
ExxonMobil, the largest publicly traded international oil and gas company, uses technology and innovation to help meet the world’s growing energy needs. In Mozambique, ExxonMobil holds a 25 percent indirect interest in Area 4 and will lead the construction and operation of future natural gas liquefaction facilities. In addition, ExxonMobil was awarded the joint rights to negotiate the Angoche basin (A5-B) and the Zambezi Delta (Z5-C and Z5-D) concessions, as part of Mozambique’s fifth licensing round.
